Ways to eat walnuts in Nigeria are many but n this post I am going to talk about just 4 super creative ways to do it. Before I do that let me briefly state the enormous benefits that are available when you make walnuts part of your diet daily.
Walnuts are the only nuts that contain high amounts of omega-3 essential fatty acids (also known as ALA), which promote heart health and help lower blood pressure. You’ll get 2.5 grams of ALA per ounce of walnuts, but you don’t need a whole ounce to get results; eating even a few walnuts per day has been found to have health benefits.
Research has shown that walnut chomping can help manage metabolic syndrome, diabetes and inflammation. The nuts also have anti-cancer properties and can even play a role in weight management. Most of us have at least one of these ailments lurking in our genes, so it’s worth dropping a walnut or two into your daily diet.
Huh? What? Walnuts are known to improve cognitive functioning and memory. Eating them regularly has also been linked to a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Breakfast
Apart from using walnuts in your popular granola, walnuts come in handy in the preparation of cereals such as golden morn, quaker oats, born flakes and these cereals are taken by both adults and children. this provides you with an added sort of variety to not having a boring breakfast.
Eat your walnuts straight up, on top of oatmeal, salads, cereals and yoghurts. Mix them into your pilaf and quinoa salads. Bake ‘em up in your favourite dessert. Because they’re mild, they’re also versatile; capitalize on that by pairing them with sweet and savoury dishes.
Salads
Add chopped walnuts to the top of a salad. Walnuts add a delicious, heart-healthy crunch when you add them as a salad topping. Whether you’re using toasted, candied, or raw walnuts, or you’re having a caesar, kale, or Waldorf salad, toss on a handful and enjoy!
Walnuts are especially tasty when added to a salad that’s been topped with warm grilled chicken or veggies.
Bread
Mix walnuts into a recipe for homemade bread. Whether you’re making bread for sandwiches or a sweet dessert bread, walnuts are a hearty addition to almost any loaf. Just mix in a couple of handfuls of walnuts after the dough has risen.[3]
Banana bread and pumpkin bread both taste great with walnuts added!
